RipCut Design was started in Cottonwood Heights, Utah in 2016 by Mat Harris. He grew up watching This Old House and the New Yankee Workshop, coveting power tools when his friends were buying fancy tennis shoes. He put most of his projects on hold for a decade while he became an oculoplastic surgeon, but managed to keep up his skills building furniture on the porch of his small apartment.

After returning to Utah, Mat began designing and building modern home goods. With the purchase of an industrial CNC router and a full workshop full of tools, RipCut Design was born and began pushing out custom projects and artwork on commission. The RipCut Desk is our first product available to a wide market. It was conceived in the basement while we passed the hours on our bike trainers: uncomfortable, sweaty, always thinking there must be a better way. As with all good designs, they are proceeded by necessity and a scarcity of good solutions. RipCut Design strives to make functional and beautiful products that meet these needs and do it in style.
